The first time I picked up golf clubs was six years ago (when my family and I moved back to Australia.) I just couldn’t help getting hooked. Though a challenging game, I have found it to be very rewarding most of the time. It’s not just the idea of hitting the ball I love: going for the walk with friends after work and meeting new people are part of the highlights for me.
The COVID crisis has begun overshadowing all other health concerns: we skip doctors’ appointments, neglect our general health and seem to have forgotten how devastating results of this can be. This global pandemic has been hard for all of us, including cancer patients. Some may be at increased risk of serious illness from an infection, while others may not have the funds or opportunities to receive regular treatment during this time.
As owners of the Fat Fox Art Gallery, we have been affected by COVID as much as any. That’s not to say there weren’t benefits: during the ten weeks we were closed, I have had more time for painting, gardening and golf (my golfing holiday in Portarlington, as I like to call it.) Golf inspires me to create, as well as keeping me focused and healthy, which is something we all could use a little more of these days.
By running a golf marathon in Portarlington, I am hoping to make a difference to the lives of cancer patients and contribute my part to the scientific research needed to cure this terrible disease (link below.)
On the 14th December 2020, as part of the national Longest Day Golfing event, I will play four rounds of golf (seventy-two holes) at Portarlington Golf Club in a single day.
Part of this fundraiser is the auction of my photographic works. I have donated ‘Bellarine Rural in Spring,’ a 1st Edition (Limited) Fine Art Print on canvas size 60 x 40cm with overwrapping 4cm thick wooden stretch bars and ready to hang!
This artwork has been chosen to feature in the Geelong Calendar 2021, which will be released in a matter of months. The starting price for ‘Bellarine Rural in Spring’ is 200AUD. Please email me firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested. Regular updates will be on my https://www.facebook.com/fatfoxartgallery .
All proceeds go to the Cancer Council. This auction will end on Saturday 12th of December, two days before the golf marathon takes place.
Please join us in raising funds to fight cancer!
